Atlantic Aero receives “Letter of TC ODA Designation”
Greensboro, NC- October 19th, 2009 – Greenwich AeroGroup’s Atlantic Aero announced today that it has received a letter of TC
ODA (Organization Designation Authorization) designation from the FAA Atlanta ACO (Aircraft Certification Office). This was the
fourth such letter to be issued in the history of the Atlanta ACO. Armed with this new privilege, Atlantic Aero can approve
technical data, issue and amend STC’s (Supplemental Type Certificates) and complete other designated certification tasks that
the company has been found qualified to perform.
“Prior to receiving this award, Atlantic Aero was an established DAS (Designated Alteration Station) for some 12 years” commented Jim
Spinder, President of Atlantic Aero. “We successfully issued over 70 STC’s as a DAS and learned to command the administrative,
compliance and technical skills associated with this responsibility as demonstrated by several consecutive DAS related FAA audits
which revealed no findings. Considering the added benefits for us and Greenwich AeroGroup, the decision to evolve to an ODA platform
came naturally” he added.
“Congratulations to Atlantic Aero” commented Kim Smith, Manager of Small Airplane Directorate, FAA Atlanta ACO. “This is a significant
milestone in your organization’s relationship with the FAA. Your demonstrated performance and responsive attitude in working with us
contributed to this approval” she added.
The ODA adds significant flexibility to the company. Whereas a DAS was limited to projects under the auspices of its repair station
certificate, the holder of an ODA can undertake projects based on its organizational qualifications (ODA & DER staff). “This
capability is a great tool for our network” added Jim Ziegler, CEO of Greenwich AeroGroup. “Being the holder of an ODA will benefit
our MRO businesses, Atlantic Aero, Western Aircraft and Summit Aviation by significantly improving our ability to facilitate new
installations & up-grades for our customers.” he added.
